Floral Friday ~ Phalaenopsis Orchids

PHALS
The genus name is derived from the Greek phalaino (moth), and opsis (appearance), referring to the moth-like flowers of some species, hence the common name moth orchid. In the 1800s, the wealthy obsessed over orchids filling their conservatories with one-of-a-kind exotic species.  One such collector was George Vanderbilt who requested 800 species to fill the Biltmore Estate’s Conservatory.

Today, thanks to modern science, we do not have to wait decades for new varieties.

Availability
The basic colors of phals are typically available all year-round on our weekly Holland Special.  Ask us about phal plants, too!
