Floral Friday ~ Snapdragons
Oh Snap! Snapdragons are a florist’s favorite line flower. Who remembers taking the bloom off as a child, pinching the sides and making them “talk”? Surprisingly enough, the snap that it makes and the resemblance to a dragon is how they received their common name.
Snapdragons are available all year and come in a variety of colors: white, yellow, orange, light pink, pink, cherry rose pink, apple blossom, lavender, purple and red. Some colors are more limited during certain seasons. You can typically find them offered weekly on our California & Canada Farm Direct Specials.
Care & Handling
Remove all foliage from the bottom 1/3 portion of stem, recut and place in water with flower food. Snapdragons are ethylene sensitive so keep them away from fruits. Even if the snapdragons have been treated with an ethylene-action inhibitor, treat them again as soon as possible. Being multi-floreted stems, snapdragons benefit from multiple treatments. This will inhibit wilting and increase water uptake.
