Floral Friday ~ The Color Blue
“Blue is the only color which maintains its own character in all its tones it will always stay blue; whereas yellow is blackened in its shades, and fades away when lightened; red when darkened becomes brown, and diluted with white is no longer red, but another color – pink.” ~ Raoul Dufy
Of the 280,000 flowering plants on earth, only 10% are blue due to the fact that no true blue pigment exists in plants. The blue color comes from the modification of red pigments. Ever try altering the soil pH of a hydrangea plant? Acidic soil yields blue and purple blooms while a more alkaline soil produces pinks and magenta.
